Whistling Billy
Historic Coulterville
Considered to be one of the most unspoiled mining camps left along the entire
Mother Lode, Coulterville is a designated State Historical Landmark with 40
historic buildings and sites remaining.

Coulterville sits on the original route travelled by John Muir on his way to Yosemite
Valley in 1868, and marks the beginning of the historic John Muir Highway.

You'll find a fine museum on the edge of town, inside the remains of the Old
Coulter Hotel. The Whistling Billy engine, which once pulled ore cars from the Mary
Harrison Mines to the Mill, sits under the Hanging Tree just in front.

Your stay at Coltiva Guest Cottage will include a copy of the Coulterville historic
walking map and a visitors guide to shops and restaurants in Coulterville and
Greeley Hill.
