Yosemite National Park
One of the most treasured landscapes in the United States, Yosemite
National Park offers a year-round entrance just 31 breathtaking miles
from Coulterville. You will find guided nature tours, seasonal bicycle
rentals, helpful hiking maps and several informative bus tours to help
you experience the spectacular beauty inside the park. White water
rafting, horseback rides, swimming holes and unlimited hiking trails
are available just outside the park
Hiking and Sierra Recreation
Stanislaus National Forest begins about 6 miles from Coulterville and extends all the
way to Yosemite with an extensive network of enjoyable trails and fantastic scenery.
Water Sports and Leisure
Lake Don Pedro and Lake McClure/Lake McSwain offer several recreation areas from 6
to 20 miles from Coulterville. All of the areas offer day camping, boat rentals and
swimming lagoons.
Historic Gold Rush Towns on Hwy 49
Ever since the original discovery of gold in California, Highway 49 has been famous for
its continuous stream of historic gold mining towns. Many have been beautifully
preserved with museums, antique shops, cemeteries, walking tours and an
unmistakably romantic charm. In half a day you could travel from Historic Coulterville to
Sonora, Columbia State Park, Jamestown and back, or stay for dinner at a variety of
restaurants in that area. In a full day, you could make it all the way north to Sutter Creek
and add Jackson, Angels Camp and Murphys to your list.
Vineyards and Wine Tasting
Ironstone Vineyard in Murphys is without a doubt the most spectacular winery around
with monthly concerts in their lovely amphitheater. You will find several
other wineries along Highway 49 between Coulterville and Murphys.
Golf
The closest golf course is located at Pine Mountain Lake in nearby Groveland. There is
another course about 45 minutes away in Twain Harte.
Dining
The Coulter Cafe, just two blocks away, is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and
provides a small convenience store until 8pm during the summer season. The Greeley
Hill Cafe is also open for breakfast and is right on the way to Yosemite. Groveland also
offers a nice variety of restaurants about 15 miles up the hill.
Night Life
Historic Coulterville is very quiet once the sun goes down. You can find entertainment in
Groveland at the Iron Door, or in James town and Sonora about 30 miles north. At the
Coltiva Guest Cottage you can enjoy unlimited star gazing, the music of nature and fresh
country air from the privacy of your own deck.
Casinos
Recreational gamblers will be happy to know that we are located about an hour from
two large Indian Casinos.
Events in the Park
Coulterville hosts four large events in the public park throughout the sunny season with
music, food, vendors and other activities. Any other day, you can feel free to relax under
shady trees, play horseshoes or swim in the public pool.
